When a disaster hits Haiti, and there are many injured people, the people closest to hospitals and medical professionals have the highest probability of surviving. In contrast, people from the rural areas several kilometers away from the medical facility are the most vulnerable and often succumb to preventable injuries and blood loss. Modestly equipped clinics and at least a couple of medical professionals in those areas can significantly raise the odds of survival for these people.
