Haiti – A country still reeling from the devastation of the 2010 earthquake, with rebuilding efforts thwarted and hindered by other natural disasters frequently striking the country. Even with billions in foreign aid, Haiti is still far away from true rebuilding. A key aspect of this rebuilding is a resilient medical infrastructure to act as the first line of defense against loss of life during natural disasters. In-between disasters, this infrastructure can help Haitians fight the critical diseases facing them every day.

This is what HEHDO was created to do. Our goal is to develop a lasting solution to Haiti’s healthcare problems and a fully-prepared disaster management solution to keep the number of preventable deaths at a minimum. The main victims of an inadequate and severely limited healthcare infrastructure in Haiti are people from lower socioeconomic classes, whether or not there is a natural disaster.

HEHDO aims to help these people and provide them access to medical care whenever they need it. Our team of medical professionals and volunteers will also help the state we are operating from – New York. The underprivileged and underrepresented population denominations have difficulty navigating the healthcare system, and HEHDO can assist them.

Healthcare

Proper healthcare is the basic right of every human being, but unfortunately, almost 40% of Haitians don’t have access to essential healthcare. This problem manifests more strongly when a disaster strikes. We aim to rectify that problem by building resilient healthcare infrastructure in Haiti.

Emergency

We are working on creating an efficient emergency response system for Haiti. This requires communication solutions that may survive a disaster like an earthquake, vehicles capable of reaching people in need of emergency medical assistance, and a team of professionals ready to respond.

Relief Program

A significant segment of the population in Haiti is in constant need of short-term and long-term medical, food, and shelter assistance, even years after the disaster. Their survival and basic needs take precedence over rebuilding efforts, and we aim to prioritize our resources accordingly.

Natural Disaster

Our goal is to minimize the loss of life and prevent major injuries that can result in life-long disabilities in case of a natural disaster. This requires a far-reaching and well-equipped medical infrastructure that’s resilient enough to survive the disaster and remain viable to help the people of Haiti.

Our Causes

right-divider
Our goal is to improve the medical infrastructure in Haiti and minimize the loss of life that accompanies natural disasters. This comprehensive goal requires us to pursue multiple causes and projects at once, ensuring more transparency for our donors as they understand what they are donating to. The causes we collect donations for also reveal the scope of work that needs to be done in Haiti just to build a comprehensive medical infrastructure.

The medical equipment and supplies on the ground are only helpful if the people there know how to utilize them. Primary health education and rudimentary training can prepare the population for natural disasters and country-wide emergencies.

Ambulances equipped with the necessary medical supplies and modified to navigate the terrain are essential for moving the injured and the sick safely to the hospitals.

We aim to establish clinics equipped with basic first-aid and emergency medical response kits in areas farthest away from population centers and hospitals.
